ABOUT
THE ARTIST
Per
Nilsson was born i 1954. He grew up in Uppsala and moved to Stockholm in 1974
to study at he Swedish Art and Design School. From then on he has lived
in Stockholm.
A turning point in Per's painting was when he started to work outside, under
the sky, directly in front of the subject, just like the French impressionists
that he had been admiring when he went to Paris and Jeu de Paume with his
parents in his early teenage period. But while his predecessors liberated
themselves more and more from their motive and concentrated more on the atmospheric,
his own search for motives in the insignificant places in Stockholm's
surroundings resulted in a sort of solidarity with the place which he paints
in dull, almost grey lights. The date on his paintings shows that he wants
to seize the moment. They are all about a very special day.
The perspective from under the sky is also present in the paintings from churches
and from rocks in Saimaa in Finland.
